Try to Praise the Mutilated World by Adam Zagajewski

Try to praise the mutilated world.
Remember June's long days,
and wild strawberries, drops of rosé wine.
The nettles that methodically overgrow
the abandoned homesteads of exiles.
You must praise the mutilated world.
You watched the stylish yachts and ships;
one of them had a long trip ahead of it,
while salty oblivion awaited others.
You've seen the refugees going nowhere,
you've heard the executioners sing joyfully.
You should praise the mutilated world.
Remember the moments when we were together
in a white room and the curtain fluttered.
Return in thought to the concert where music flared.
You gathered acorns in the park in autumn
and leaves eddied over the earth's scars.
Praise the mutilated world
and the gray feather a thrush lost,
and the gentle light that strays and vanishes
and returns.

They were exiles. They came here separately
to this decaying paradise. They joined
    together because of their commonalities
and discovered joy in celebrating their
    differences. And everyday they promised
each other that tomorrow this would
    feel like home.

    About a world I imagine~~~

Imagine a world of peace, where there are no enemies,
no blood is lost over boundaries, borders, or who can spit the farthest.

Where government leaders truly hear and act upon the voices
of those they represent…not just for a select few who have bought their influence.

Where we value the planet we inhabit, our home,
instead of treating it as a disposable product
to be tossed away when it has served its purpose.

Where there is a spirit of “us”, instead of “you against me”, where we work toward
common goals, rather than those that benefit only one side.

Where there is compassion, a willingness to understand, and to improve
the well-being of all. It matters not what color your skin is
or the language you speak… we are all valued.

What a world this would be! Perhaps it’s a dream world, or maybe it isn’t.
I guess it’s up to you and me.

    Imagine a world…

    Imagine a world unmutilated

    Where mutilation has stopped

    Where the common humanity

Within each of us is embraced

    By the other

    Where wisdom and prudence prevail

Where wealth and power are irrelevant

    Where all people understand

    What the Endower desires

We do with our wealth and power

And dispense that grace upon the other

    Lighting the world.

It seems to be a problem of mankind’s allowing its ego to fully possess itself and the planet, to the detriment of civilization. The Creator of all is shaking his head in concern and dismay.
