    The letter that never arrived~~~

I waited forever and a day,
but with each passing day, there was no response.

I felt the need to write to her, expressing my sadness
as to how we hadn’t communicated in so long…
sisters, just three years apart, having grown up together.
Now, with families of our own, we seem to have
    drifted apart.

What was it, that key moment, that upended our relationship?
I have a sense of what it might have been, but I will never know
    until I hear her response.

    So, I check my mail,
    always hoping to hear back,
while also resigning myself to the uncertainty.

    Maybe that’s how it’s meant to be…
life is filled with unanswered questions.

Maybe if I wait just a bit longer…
    maybe, just maybe.

Families are supposed to be forever.

The letter that never arrived was penned by my son.

He apologizes for hurting me and acknowledges that his poor communication has led to many misunderstandings.

    He pledges to do better.

He wishes to convey his appreciation for all I have done for him, my continued support and devotion to him.

He wants me to know that despite appearances to the contrary he loves me very much and is aware that he is fortunate to have me as his mother.

The relationship between mother and son is a fragile one. A son, trying to assert independence, the ability to stand on his own two feet, to have his own viewpoints on the entirety of life, will sometimes appear detached.

All we can do as moms is be there, present, and supportive, and to show them that our love is unwavering.

He may not be able to express his feelings right at this moment, but I’m sure he knows your love is strong.
