Then and now – Rita Basuray

Then we dialed a phone, now we press a button.

Then we tied our shoelaces, now we slip our feet in.

Then we wrote a letter, now we just text.

Then we took time to love, now we perhaps don’t!

We change with the times. Does time change with us?

Rita, I remember doing all those things.
Also, it’s very Interesting that you say “then we took time to love, now perhaps we don’t.”I like that you put in the word perhaps… So it’s not definitive. I like that you end with a question… It makes the piece open ended.

Rita, that’s a very interesting question you pose at the end… does time change with us? It seems to me that we have adapted to the times we live in, and unfortunately, this isn’t necessarily a good thing.

We live in difficult times and I guess each generation has had them. However, many of us have hardened up our exteriors and interiors to survive. I long for the “good, old times” of love, compassion, and a willingness to help those in need. Does this still exist, absolutely, but it seems it is the exception, rather than the norm.

    About then and now~~~

Back in time, the days were long and lazy.No responsibility, free and footloose.Life could go on forever,or so it seemed.

Life progressesand comes into sharper focus.Love, marriage, children, grandchildren…the world looks different.Priorities change,Now, it’s not just me,it’s us,and that’s fine with me.

There once wasa space in my heartthat needed to be filled, and now my cup overflows.I look into the eyes of my grandchildrenand realize just how wondrous life is.

Is life perfect, no…my body rebels and creaks at times, reminding me when I’ve done too much. And I’ve had some close calls.

But guess what,I am grateful for my family and friendsand the life my Creator has bestowed on me.The Lord has given mea reason and a purpose to my lifeand I intend to “make good onmy end of the bargain.”
