“Big God ” by Florence and the Machine

You need a big god
Big enough to hold your love

You need a big god
Big enough to fill you up

You keep me up at night
To my messages, you do not reply
You know I still like you the most
The best of the best and the worst of the worst
Well, you can never know
The places that I go
I still like you the most
You’ll always be my favorite ghost

You need a big god
Big enough to hold your love
You need a big God
Big enough to fill you up

Sometimes I think it’s getting better
And then it gets much worse
Is it just part of the process?
Jesus Christ, it hurts
Though I know I should know better
Well, I can make this work
Is it just part of the process?
Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ, it hurts
(Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ, it hurts)

You need a big god
Big enough to hold your love

You need a big god
Big enough to fill you up

Shower your affection, let it rain on me
And pull down the mountain, drag your cities to the sea
Shower your affection, let it rain on me
Don’t leave me on this white cliff
Let it slide down to the, slide down to the sea
Slide down to the, slide down to the sea

    What happens when waiting

Good question. I suppose different people do different things when they wait, and it all depends on what they are waiting for. I can imagine a father waiting for the child to be born, just seeing the crowning and fainting. I hear a mom crying helplessly waiting for the child to take the first breath. A doctor thinking 2 steps ahead, waiting for the heartbeat to start again after “clear!” shocking. A dog drooling, waiting for a morsel to drop from the table. And what do I do? Let’s get back to my first sentence. Good question!

      Rita,
Your speaker’s “Good question” poses a good answer, “It depends…” There are certain things you can’t wait too long for like the baby’s first breath or that next heartbeat while at other times it’s best to wait and see. Thank you for sharing your piece. Andre

    About what happens when waiting~~~

I hold my breath… time passes slowly… seconds tick by with effort.
Life’s actions are painfully slowed… drawn out to an imperceptible pace.
Anger at the world for taking advantage of me… why is the world not spinning on its axis the way it should?

The realization that I don’t have the power to make changes in the way others or the world proceed.
Have patience… I can only control myself and sometimes I fail at that.
If I don’t succeed, try, try again.

      Michele,
“Have patience…I can only control myself and sometimes I fail at that.” An admonition, an acceptance and humility. Also an inclination to persist or persevere waiting…
      Thank you.

    “What happens when waiting…

    Lying in bed
“through the watches of the night”
    waiting seems the most difficult
    clinging to hope
raised arms and hands reaching for an embrace
    or an answer
in the endless dark of night
    when will the light come
    pacing breaths
    four seven eight
    focusing on the One
with whom you are loved perfectly
    when life is a mess
four seven eight no longer counts
breath by the memory of muscle alone
    conscious thoughts now aloof
    body inert without tone
    awake
    light

You write in the shadow of Florence. The perfect love, the forgiving love, the all-encompassing love… the One who gives you all. And you are upheld through tribulations.
